Begging for help again:) Does anyone know who makes the thinnest valve cover gasket for a big block. The Felpro rubber coated fiber 3/16" is too thick but seals great. I need another 1/8" between my valve cover and the brake booster for my PCV valve to fit in. Any suggestions?

Dude. 1/8" is TWO SIXTEENTHS

Use RTV or put the PCV on the other side of the engine.

Steve...I know it sounds bizzarre but everything under the hood of this car is in 1/16" increments, it sucks. Do you think the RTV will work for an extended period of time? To change gaskets I have to remove the brake booster/master cylinder and AC hose on the drivers side...on the passenger side I have to remove the fan motor and fuel pressure regulator/fuel line from the electric fuel pump...just sayin:/

I do not think RTV will work.

I dunno your combo, but it sounds very unstock. Could you possibly lower the engine?

You are very good...lowered the k member 3/8". That got me the hood clearance I needed. Thank for the thought Steve:)

Need more info on what you have

Stock heads & stock valve covers, you're stuck with the cork & rubber usually 3/16" a minimum thickness.

or

Aftermarket heads & Cast or Fabricated valve covers, I can help with this as I offer a .050" thick gasket.

If you have Stock heads with Cast or Fabricated valve covers and feel ambitious you can remove the heads and have the valve cover gasket rail machined true & flat so a thinner gasket will seal. In fact this will help ANY gasket seal better for you.

Just some food for thought wish I would have machined mine while they were off. It WILL be done next time.

Greg

Oh forgot about the rubber gaskets. I think Fel Pro or somebody makes an 1/8" rubber gasket but don't know how well they seal

Thanks Greg. I have Eddy heads and the early 70's stock chrome valve covers. I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree...but how thick is .050 in inches? I might be interested in what you have. I just purchased some 3/32 gasket material and may cut my own out if I can't find something soon.

1/16 is .062 so .050 is thinner. Eddy heads are taller than stock so that explains the issue .

3/32 is .093 ... thicker than 1/16 but not 1/8

Thank you John:) I know I should have been able to figure it out but I just couldn't get it right. I didn't realize the Eddy's were taller, but with that and the taller valve covers, it just adds to the issue. I think I'm taking the 3/32 back and try the 1/16 material.
Have always valued you input John...thanks again.

Russ save yourself some time and aggravation. The 3/32" or the .050" (approx 3/64") material WILL NOT SEAL the 70's stock chrome valve covers. They require a thicker gasket material that will conform to the surface irregularities of the stamped steel covers.
You may want to look for a fabricated valve cover and possibly have it motified for clearance in the area needed. Then you can use a thin gasket
