FWIW I've used other Sherwin Williams Automotive products & they are good stuff... Plus at least in they past their color formulas for the old Mopar colors were the best match to OE..

Chris/Morty, Yeah I kinda agree with you. I thought Id be nuts to try it myself, but then I thought "why not?". Ill never know if Im any good at it if I dont even try. I also heard people say leave it to the experts when I rebuilt my tranny, or put a 6 inch lift on my truck, or gutted and redid my kitchen and bathroom or countless other projects. But I did those myself and they turned out great. Took alot longer than a pro and I hit some snags along the way, but I got it done.
A couple things that made me want to try is the fact Im doing the interior and trunk too. So I ca kinda practice in those areas. Plus I have a friend who shoots cars on the side who can help me out if needed. If I cant even shoot the interior without screwing up, Ill know that its just not for me and Ill have my friend do it.
But the thing is I want to at least give it a shot myself. Its part of the hobby for me....to attempt and learn new things.
Plus, this is the car to learn on. Its not numbers matching, will never win any trophies, and is a driver. I dont think I would attempt it on a true 69.5 Bee or a Cuda.
I think u get my point, I just wanted to clear that up.

Anyways, I can only get F6 in Omni locally, cant get Deltron. For dupont, cant get Nason, only chromabase, but its $650 a gal! Yikes!
I checked Matrix and there is a distibutor about 70 miles away. U tech is 100 miles away.

I will check on Pro spray next.

Thnx for the advice so far guys

Tim,

I'm with you 100%. I try do everything myself too. I built my 4000 sqft metal shop, put up my two post lift, put in a 4" lift in my power wagon, converted my 75 Trail Duster to 1993 360 MPI and so on and so on.

I've even painted my 71 Challenger 340 driver myself in BC/CC

My problem is I always assume that evryone is doing a full blown restoration like I am currently doing. Bad on my part.

My only advice now would be paint quality. I think the Sherman Williams paint looks pretty good. Also you don't need to go local. I order my paint out of San Diego and they deliver.

Best of luck.

Morty

THERE IS AN F6 FORMULA IN THE MOPARTS TECH ARCHIVE. IN THE PAINT AND BODY SECTION, IT'S LISTED WITH PPG

Well to make it easy why not cut & paste?

69.5 F6 green paint formula,

Awhile back I posted a question on the boards about F6 correct color well I got a Qt formula
from Mirror Image out in Indiana so i thought
i'd share it with al those who inquired about it.
You will have to muliply this formula if you need
more than a Qt.

F6 Qt Formula PPG DBC Basecoat
tint---------cumulative parts
DMD662 -----------89.8
DMD647 -----------98.8
DX685------------129.1
DMD686 ----------222.6
DMD690 ----------368.7
DMD640 ----------691.0
DBX689 ---------1016.5

Well there you have it everyone.
-Jeff

Mods Is there a place where this Formula can be saved for future use?It Has Been Judged by
Chrysler Nats Judge to be Correct Shade F6.

yes i'm the one who posted it.
I did an A12 69.5 Sixpack SuperBee in 2005
and got the formula from a member here who had his car painted by a shop who created the formula and worked for PPG at one time.
The Formula that PPG has in their computers is the wrong shade and I had used it to paint the engine compartment and when I brought it back to have the engine installed the mechanic was a big Mopar guy and told me it was the wrong shade and that is when I joined the forum and got the info.

It has been formulated to a survivor F6 car and was Judged by the Mopar judges to be the correct shade.
you will have to multiple the formula by how many qts you need.

It is a PPG DBC formula so OMNI won't work but if you want the correct color there is no other brand that matches correctly.

as you can see from the photo's depending on the lighting conditions the shade of color will change
as when it is in bright light the metallic makes it look a brighter shade.
I have seen many F6 repaints and none look this shade and since the guy I got it from had his car judged I would say it is correct and talked to
Tim at Mirror Image who painted the car and created the formula and if I was to recommend paint for F6 this is the only one i put my seal of approval on and not because it is PPG paint but because it has been approved by Mopar judges to be correct

I can tell you first hand that the DuPont is too pale and the PPG too dark/green. The PPG is a tad closer though. I you want it right you are going to have to do a custom mix.

the formula PPG has on file is not the correct shade
trust me,been there done that with the engine compartment and had to respray it all.

the Formula above that is now in the Tech Archive is a custom mix formula but is only for PPG DBC mixing system as the tints vary from different manufactures of paint and why the different brands all have different shades for the factory color but this formula is the closest
