ok, so for a while i've tried to figure out why i can only get a 275/60 under the rear of the road runner, when it seems like a 295 should go under there.

finally figured it out: it's the 10 inch rims. saw a 70 with 275/60's on an 8 inch rim, and there was a lot of space under there.

so a 295 mickey thompson is only .9 inches wider than a 275. so i'm pretty sure that if i go with an 8 inch rim, that i can get that 295 under there, if i come up with the proper back spacing.

question is, is the money worth it to get .9 more inches of time under there?

what do you think?

A narrow wheel is probably not your best answer. BFG suggests a wheel between 8" and 10.5" wide. They made their measurements on a 9.5" wheel. I'd take that as a strong suggestion.
The 10" wheel is a better fit than the 8" wheel. The tire will still be a foot wide but you want a wide tire.

I'm running a 295-50-15 tire on an 8.5 rim with my 70 RR...Tried the exact same tire with a 10 rim and no joy.
The 8.5/295 combo fits really nice...

The rear wheels have 6.0" of back spacing... The wheels are mine & intended for my Coronet R/T Vert... The car in the picture is my buddies & we just bolted them up to check clearances... Everything clears with .5" or more of clearance... I'll know more when I bolt them on my car... But a 68-69 Coronet has a slightly bigger (wider) wheel well than a 70 Roadrunner.

BTW The change from 14" steelies completely changes the look of my buddies Coronet..

feets has a good point thought. 8.5 isn't too bad, while 8 may not be so good. what is th backspacing on that?

but the real question is, is it really worth it to buy a whole new set of rims to get .9 inch more tire under there?

Why not grab two et streets or something? A stickier tire might be more fun to drive. I wouldn't spend the dough on such a small upgrade especially if its a compromise with the 8.5" rim.

that's what i'm going to do. and i just found that they only make a 295/50, not a 60. i like the height and stance that the 275/60 gives the car, so it looks like i'll just go for a set of those.

i need more traction, and will need even more once the new engine is done!
