Wondering if anyone has any info on how far w9 castings can be angle milled. I was contemplating going .250" but was told that this would make the decks on the exhaust side too thin and I should limit myself to .125". I have heard of guys going .200-.225 and then even flat cutting on top of that. My castings are brand new, never cut, factory deck 847 heads. The individual that suggested only .125" is a respected engine guy but not a die-hard Chrysler guy. In their advertising Mopar even specifies there is material to allow rolling...I was just wondering how much....the guys that have gone the .225 and more have you had any problems?..

Deck on w9 is only .350-.380" thick.
I would stay away from angle mill on them you can do .225" on w8.
Why do you need to angle mill them is this small CI engine?
Or are you looking at valve angle change?

I talked about this before with RyanJ to do this on my W9's when he did them. As I remember he thought you could get them to 13~13.5 degree valve angle, but told me that for all of the work and money it would take, the gains were minimal...

got some that are 13* & they were a pain in the ass, you've got a lott of machine work to do on them, intake, rocker gear,i'll never go through that again,i mean nothing fits, has to be custom made & fit,jg309

You would be best getting onto a set of castings that have not had the guides machined yet. There are out there, but there isn't a bunch of them around.

don t know much about w9 s but I have one pair of 11* w8 and they are mildly put interesting, every head bolt hole is "adjusted" even the spark plugs are moved up, if it s not a max effort deal, I would pass

-65 Valiant,420", all motor,2700#, dot tires, 8,42 @ 160,2

I had a set of RP W-9s that were that way... needed
guides and porting, ended up selling them to Ryan J...
I dont know if I would angle a set of W-9s.. they are
light duty enough... I had one head almost cut in
half when a valve broke ... that was a Chapman CNC
head
