I can relate to almost every reply, ive been on both sides of the fence.

Why pay if you can do it yourself, one things thats not mentioned is how some live cheap to have a few nice cars weather modified or oem, it still takes time and money.

To some its a part time deal, to others mopars are a big part of there life.

When a company says, hey were sending a T [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean], I say send two, I cant afford your product and buy cloths at the same time and they do.

To some thats its a small part of there world may spend the weekend playing golf, to others, its screw golf, I need this or that part, paint, or even general supplies to do the things we do ourselves.

I eat cheap steaks but good cuts, but its still steak.

Now if ive an intake for instance and im gonna spend two hours and two cans of paint stripper @$8 a can to do the job but the machine shop will blast it for $20 the machine shops gonna do it.

This post is not much different form other thngs in life, even to smart kid who saves for a new laptop.

Ya ever notice some who have alot of real money, not credit live a modest lifestyle, drive modest cars, but weather its travel or cars they dont skimp.

Anyway....good post frankinbuster.

My brother in law is like that... he's as cheap as the day is long, but when he does spend money, it's always on the good stuff.

You have to know your limitations though. No point in grabbing a generic part out of the junkyard and spending more to make it fit than a good one made for your car would have.... or worse, you can't make it work at all and you wasted your time.

There starts to be a point where my time is worth more than my money and I just want something done NOW! Usually I can't afford to do it that way but a few times I've taken the easy way out and never looked back. It's not always a question of capability, it's sometimes more a question of time and motivation!

Pretty much. Sometimes I have more time than money, and other times I have more money than time

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I've made parts for my own car since I was in high school. What is different these days is that when I design a new part for my car, I make 50 parts instead of just one, and then I put the other 49 parts up for sale. If they sell I make more.

I average about one new part a month using this method and I now have about 150 products that I sell. Every product I sell is a copy or a verson of a part that I first built for one of my own projects.

It's a balancing act for me. I enjoy fabricating my own junk, and I'm cheap, so I enjoy saving money by fabricating my own junk. But there's also times where I just give in and spend the money so that I have time to do other things. The older I get, the more I realize that I can make more money, but I can't make more time.

Confucius.

Einstein would tell you that you can make more time, if you go really, really fast.

I made an oilpan for the new motor. Aluminum, gated built in windage tray and external pickup. Also working on control arms that are more adjustable than thw hotchkis I have.

And control arm. A friend drew it up in solid works and may machine the copes for more accuracy. There will be a threaded insert that the rod end screws into and the other end will have a bolt and lock washer. Undo the jamb nut on the rod end and twist away. No more removing the eccentric and it may allow a quick street and track setting.
