maybe one of you guys can give me an idea of why my fuel pressure is changing for no good reason, if i set f/p at 6-7 lbs it will drop down to 3-4 or sometimes it will be up around 11 lbs, i have a barry grant 220 h/r pump feeding 2 demon 850 blower carbs which are junk imo on an 871 fed by a -10 with a -8 return, i bought the pump about 6-7 years ago and just got the car finished and running, i have used this setup before with no problems, not that it should matter but i will be changing the carbs out to a set of quick fuel blower carbs, any input would help.

Is your fuel pressure gauge liquid filled? If so drain it and go from there

yes i'm running pump gas with "stabil" additive, the gauge is liquid filled, how is that a problem?

The pressure will drop on the guage when the liquid heats up. Also the return line needs to be bigger than the feed line.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

Never heard of that, I thought an autometer guage thats liquid filled is about the most accurate style of guage there was?? I would think they might want to use a non expanding form of liquid. But that might be why they are not filled all the way to allow for the expansion.

Lear something every day I guess.

Are you running a constant voltage to your FP???

I should of said consistant voltage.

I was having that problem with pressure going up and down...I drained my liquid filled gauge and...ROCK STEADY gauge....

that return line needs to be the same size as the supply...

as far as i know it is getting consistant voltage, its on a relay, i will have to check, i think i will start with the gauge, somebody did mention that the return should be the size of the feed or bigger,i'm not doubting that, but i just can't see it creating that much of a fluctuation.

Liquid filled gauges are great in a constant temp
environment but when the oil in them heats up it
pushes back on the measuring tube inside the gauge...
normally with the filled gauges they show a lower
pressure than whats really there(in a under hood
environment)with increasing temps..... to the OP...
drain the gauge first... there is a rubber plug
on the top... pull it and let it drain out.. either
leave the plug out or put a small hole in the plug
so it can vent ... then check your system again

No problem... my buddy had the same issue on drag week
2 years ago(pressure was dropping according to his
filled gauge) but he didnt believe it was the gauge
so when he went to check out one of the cars I drained
it and just left the plug out... when he got back
I told him I found the problem and fixed it... so
when he fired it up then looked at the gauge it was fine
and he asked what I did... I told him... he still
didnt believe me.... LOL

drained the fuel pressure gauge and readjusted the regulator, took the car out for a few more shake down miles and it seams to be holding at 6 1/2 lbs, hopefully she will hold , thanks for the input.
