I really don't want to get rid of the stock electroic ignition now that efi is running well but I would like a better distributor that I can use with stock ecm. Recomendations?

Get the "mallory" MP distributer, that would be my choice.

I recently started testing the Firecore brand products on my dyno. They have some pretty nice distributors. If you want to keep the Mopar style box all you will need is 2 prong trailer connector to adapt from the MSD compatible harness.
I tested one of the ready to run distributors and have a regular mechanical distributor coming. I have been testing several different boxes with my MP distributor and I can tell you that an MSD distributor does not like the MP boxes due to the difference in pick up coil signal.
I can let you know how the Firecore does in a few days if you like.

I'd like any extra info you get. The car runs well but it's just missing a little something (I've mentioned it before in another thread). Some have speculated the 40 year old distributor may be my issue so I'm looking for replacement options that allows me to still hook up my efi, ecm, tach etc

The only problem I have seen with the MP units is hi RPM stability goes out the window.
The way the pick up coil is mounted in them is a joke.

he won't be doing very much high RPM stuff running an orange box.

First off the orange box was never stock on anything and you are giving up top end HP because it retards the timing above 4000 rpm . I'd be changing it to something BETTER.

What distributor do you currently have ?

Its actually a chrome box. But my hemi was dynoed and peaked at 5500rpms, so I don't need a 7000+rpm redline. I'm basically just missing low end and I'm leaning towards my distributor not advancing enough. I've got nopower under 2500 rpm and it won't get out of it own way from a dead stop but after 2500 she's scary fast.

From reading posts here I'd say the best distributor to run with an MP orange box is a points distributor, that way the MP box won't fail.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

When was the last time you yanked the rotor and oiled the felt wick?

You can easily check for sticky advance weights: Grasp rotor an turn opp dist rotation. It should require only moderate effort and snap right back.

Distributor was in great shape according my mechanic after he redid my underdash wiring harness and rechecked my engine harness and adjusted everthing else. Points seems like kind of a step back though.?

Screw points get the newer mopar distributer they are made by mallory and have an adjustable mechanical advance and they are relatively cheap too. You'd be spending about 200 bucks and they are nice distributers. Any MP distributer built after 2004 will be the newer MP distributer with an adjustable mechanical advance. You wont be disapointed with it.

The Firecore distributor has the Same easy to adjust advance but the pickup coil mounting is more secure. Pretty much the same price for a nicer piece

They still have the crappy breaker plate design of the old distributors.

yes but for 200 bucks you couldnt ask for a better factory distributer in my opinion. The fact that mopar finally made a distributer with an adjustable mechanical advance is awesome. And the spring kit from mopar is fourty bucks. I was more then happy with mine.

Don't get me wrong , I have them and use them but they are not the greatest thing since sliced bread you make them out to be .

I use a Mallory dist you see here with the orange box and this dist is a nice piece. It has no vacum advance on it and adjustable mech advance so you dont have to change springs and weld slots to change the mech advance. Ron

A stock factory distributor that has been expertly curved will be better than any aftermarket distributor out of the box.
