I'm getting ready to break in my rebuilt 440 with a Summit 6401 .465 .488 /.282 .292 flat tappet cam and Stealth heads with 130lb closed seat pressure (330 lb @ .600) single spring with dampers. They, and Summit tech said that they will be fine for break-in, but I've been reading that 80-100lb would be better. I only want to do this once.

Anyone have experience with this cam & spring combo during break-in? Opinions?

Those pressures are fine, no sweat, great. I use pressures like that all the time on flat tappet solid and hydraulic cams In fact I try to shoot for a little more on both pressures, 150 to 175 on the seat and 325 to 375 opened, maybe a little more depending on the lobe lift and design of the lobe Your good with those pressures, make sure and prime the motor before starting and spin it over with the plugs out on the starter and then make sure it starts right away and run it at or above 2000 RPM for at least 20 minutes, thirty is better

I assume you have a solid lifter cam..??
His pressures are fine and the cam lift is in the post. As long as you break it in with 30 wt Brad Penn or equal oil your fine. Then change out oil to the wt oil of your choice as long as it has Zinc and phosphur.

It should still be fine, closed load isn't the killer, it's open load pressures that kill. I would have like to see the open pressure under 300. Good oil is the a must especially after the break in.

Thanks. I just got off the phone with Comp Cams tech and gave him the specs also. He estimated the spring pressure over the nose (.488 lift) at 285-290 lbs with those springs. He also said it will be ok. This is my first build and I'm just terrified of having to tear this thing back apart.

ok make sure you have the oil system primed, and the engine ready to start immediately after you turn the key and get the rpm's up to 2,500 and set total timing, then cycle up and down through the cam break in and don't allow it to set and idle for a long period of time. Run engine up in operating temp for 10 minutes, drain the 30 wt break in oil and filter and fill with 15-40 brad penn or equal oil. If intake hasn't been put on yet pour the comp cams red break in lube all over the cam.
