I assume this is the single field connection system?
I had the same problem years ago with my 64 300. The wire from the terminal to the coil (inside the box) would blow. I ended up replacing that wire with a thicker one that never blew and I never had and problems after that.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

if the fuse is 'over-rated' for the size wire you are using the fuse would never blow. it could also be the tunes in your MP3 player .

A short in the field circuit (either alternator or wiring) can take out a regulator.
It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

Bingo!! I put a fuse between the alternator and voltage regulator and blew it within 2 minutes. The alternator is definitely shorting out periodically.

Stock 69 440 GTX. 3 voltage regulators in 3 weeks. Each time, one of the two wires inside was vaporized. I leave my MP3 player plugged into the lighter socket. I would assume that if that was the problem a fuse would blow. Any ideas?
Have you sanded the bottom of the voltage regulator down to bare metal.. It needs a solid ground connection..
Just my $0.02...
