Never removed or put one in bought a socket and the bad boy never buldged with a breaker bar so drowned with liquid wrench

The ball joints thread in from the top.

the ball joint sockets are 3/4 drive for a reason, big ratchet or pipe is needed

try tightening it first to break the threads loose. Sounds crazy...but sometimes it works

Its only steel anyways, you want to be careful with it, but a small mini torch heating up in bursts might work too...don't let the flame stay longer than 10-15 seconds on the area, the threads in the UCA are very few and you might do harm to them.

Mine was a 3/4" drive as well....Cover your knuckles with gloves and a few rags otherwise you will be for a few hours

I've always used an impact, but you're gonna need a good one.
One that puts out roughly 500 ft lbs of torque to get it to break loose.
A worn out or cheap one doesn't put out enough.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I have always used heat to try to save the upper arm, I'd say about 25% of the time the arm needs to be replaced from too much corrosion and damage from removing the old ball joint.

I have a heavy steel table bolted to the floor with a big ole vise bolted to it for these times, your gonna need the same imo.

Finally a HUSKER again
On my Dads old 1 ton Bvan, We put so many in that ol girl that we eventually basically ruined the upper control arms and the threads were no good, I know they really arent threaded, they are a self wedge type thread, so if you are to nasty with it you can over swedge the control arm and ruin it. We ended up tightening them as good as possible and running a 1/4" long weld on the tops as a bandade since we didnt have a control arm and needed the van ASAP.

As far as I know they are still on it. My uncle owns the van now, and he dosnt use it like Dad did so they will last a while yet.

My socket is beaten up pretty badly, and I have had to weld a hunk of square stock in the 3/4 hole fromit being rounded to far for a breaker bar to work. Now I use a 3/4 square drive impact socket, and my BIG snappy Impact.

Buzzes them right off.

Kasey

Same here but it only takes a few seconds to see it's not threaded in from the bottom ...

That depends. Is it on a treadmill?
