I have removed the 340 from my 70 Duster, and was going to replace the oil pan, among other items. I purchased a new Milodon oil pan, which is supposed to be a stock replacement pan. However, upon inspection of the stock pan, I see 2 "dimples" in the sides of the pan at the rear. The Milodon pan doesn't have these dimples. What are these dimples for, and will I need to return the new Milodon pan? Which pan would you all recommend? I just want a stock type pan. I asked for a Mopar Performance pan, but was advised that they were on back order and it would be a while before the new ones came in. This purchase was made at Summit Rcaing, by the way. Thanks!

Those don't look stock to me...my original 318's pan didn't have anything like that.
I have the Milodon pan you speak of, only the 360 version in my '70 Duster and it fits perfectly without dimples.

Could the dimples in your 340 oil pan be for clearance of your center drop link? It connects between the pitman arm and the idler arm. Sometimes those drop links travel pretty close to the oil pan when turned all the way in either direction. If you turn the wheel all the way left or right, you'll see what I'm talking about. Look at how the center link travels. The big block A-body conversions use the 699 or 187 oil pans that have clearance stamped into the pans.

Actually, I take that back, this is a shot of my original 318's oil pan...looks pretty much the same.

I haven't had any clearance issues so far with the milodon pan. The 360 in the picture (although painted) is installed in the car now. I have the stock V8 '70 MY centerlink in it that has the drop in it, not the straight across one that i've seen in other cars.
I dont really remember if i've turned the wheel to full lock yet but i've gotten close.
