Amount of gain ( IMO) would be more effected by the level of build on the engine.

A stock or semi stock engine,,, I tend to think would see very little, if any, gain. Yet a high horsepower engine might benefit from the modification more.

what did he do? simply remove the choke plate but leave the tall horn that holds the choke plate?

if that's all he did, then no, I don't think he gained any hp. maybe 2 or 3 from less turbulence through the venturies in the carb.

if it's a carb that was designed without a choke like a 750HP that was fabricated without a choke, it might make 10-15 hp more? Has anyone done a back to back dyno test to show the difference here? It'd be neat to see, a mechanical secondary 750 holley with a choke hooked up and working, and a mechanical secondary 750 holley without a choke.

The proform main body has the contoured air entry like an HP series Holley.IMO it is worth a few cfm over a standard main body with a choke horn.On a mild motor you may or may not notice some improved throttle response but on a higher hp/rpm motor it is worth some power over a standard main body with a choke tower provided the engine can use the extra cfm.
You are getting down to race car stuff for the last couple of thousands or tenth at the track for ACTUAL need.

I think it depends on the motor and on the carb you choose. If the carb is on the small side of what the motor wants yes you can pick up some power. The Carter AFB's were a bit on the small side of what they were advertized. The Thermoquad picks up quite a few cfm by removing the choke and linkage. Dave

Back in the 90s one of the car mags did a thing on a dyno for free hp and one of them was removed the choke flap horn was stil just took out the flap made 18 hp differance back to back on the dyno think removing the fan made like somewhere around 20-25 hp and ele water pump was lile 25 hp they changed one thing at a time made a pull then put it back and tried something differnt was pretty coolo
