I'm seeking some ideas from people with experience in clutches as I need to chose one about now.

Mega stupid level horsepower and torque .
Will wind boost back for use most of the time.
Will be driven regularly on the street.
526 hemi, supercharged, stick shift 6-speed (T56 magnum).
3.73 gears Detroit Locker in my Dana 60.
Guess the cars weight will be circa 3,900 lbs not sure (aluminum eng & gearbox is not too heavy).
I know the car Will be traction constrained so not "as concerned" about exploding the gearbox as it will not be fully loaded as if it had slicks or was on a chassis Dyno etc.

I know I won't be able to meet all the criteria but a few points would be nice:
1. Pedal effort not to great
2. Engagement not severe
3. Quiet (hahaa)

Now, I'll order a whole assembly but would like to hone in on + / - 's of the options:
4. Twin or triple disk?
5. Steel or Aluminium flywheel.
6. Ram or Spec or Other ???

Anyone's experiences or suggestions would be helpful, oh yeah also must be 130th flywheel to work with my bell & Mezziere starter. Hydraulic engagement.

Appreciate your ideas .
Cheers, Darren

I went with a American power-train setup, hydraulic slave and T/O bearing, steel flywheel with twin disc. I was told it will hold 1000ftlbs, is a "soft hit" clutch setup to help reduce shock to the drive train.

I have been running imports for years with light weight aluminum flywheels, they rev very quickly but also drop rpms just as fast with the clutch pushed in. It can be very annoying on the street. You also lose some inertia with a light weight wheel... I have no idea if it will work with your starter.

I have yet to run it, as i had a stupid spun rod bearing that i am now fixing. I should have it together in about 1 week and will know more then.

I was extremely happy with their customer support/ service. I called all the big names and told them what i had and what i was looking for, these guys came up with what i felt was the best combination and the best price. I spent about 1500$ on clutch, flywheel, and hydraulic t/o setup. All very nice looking pieces.

I have used a Mcleod street twin and it is just about the perfect clutch for your application. You can get it in a diaphragm style cover for light smooth pedal effort. The other nice feature is you can get it in 130 tooth wheel and it will hold up to your combo.
Call Jamie Passon at Passon Performance and he will hook you up with the clutch you need.

Thanks that's got me thinking .. if the aluminum flywheel drops rpm faster it could create problems with throwing blower belts.
Will probably opt for steel in that case. Got my Hy t/o bearing & cyl kit from American Powertrain too, just didn't realse they did the full clutch thing.

Flywheel needs to be 130tth & 10.5" clutch if that's even possible.
Amazes me most of the clutch manufacturers quote hp ratings when I thought torque would be more relevant .
I may be wrong but I'd also expect the clutch would be more tested by the peak loading through the drivetrain such as sticky tires, low gears heavy car etc etc..?

Thanks Gus I'll look into that.
I guess another point on my wish list would be longevity / low wear properties but understand this may counter smooth operation

My list now includes checking:
American Powertrain
McLeod twin disc
Spec triple disc
Ram twin dic
?

Since your combo is pretty unique I would contact Tim at Hyatt Racing Clutches.

Another vote for Tim Hyatt. The guy gave me top notch customer service even though I hadn't bought a thing from him--wish I had instead though. I would not hesitate at all in the future to buy a clutch setup in the future from him, the guy is a walking encylopedia of clutch stuff. And he has been recommended by many happy customers on the net.

Outcast Dodge guy.

Another vote for Tim Hyatt. Great knowledge, great service, great guy. There are other guys out there but I have been so satisfied with Tim, I have no reason to look elsewhere.

x4 on Tim....I never bought a clutch from him, but he did not hesitate to tell me on the phone what clutch I needed for my combo, explain why and how the clutch would work, all in the process not rushing me or trying to sell me anything. Im using an off the shelf centerforce, but next clutch I step up to when the time comes will no doubt be one of his units
