Tell what you do to your oiling system to make a BB live. I ask this because I have been involved with alot of bigblock build's since the late 70's and never really did anything. Never reamed the passages never worried about a 1/2" pickup never grooved the #4 cam journal. These were hydraulic, solid and roller cam builds. None went over 7000 RPM and I never saw any bearing issues. The last engine that I had in my car was a 3.75 stroke that made about 650 HP and would shift 7500 and go through at about 7600 RPM. That engine spun #5&6 rod bearing's so I'm thinking that RPM was too much or was it a horsepower issue. A70ROADRUNNER is told by Harland Sharpe that you need to restrict the passage that feeds the rockers on a big block when using their rockers. I have run HS 1.6 rockers since the 90's and never experienced to much oil in the valve cover and it sounds like a lot of other people have had the same experience also. This is why this subject get's brought up so often. There is no clear cut answer to this issue like the Chevy guy's seem to enjoy. I've read all the book's the Bible Andy and Chucks books great info but still a little vague on oiling system's. So tell what your combo is and what you do to the oiling system to make it live. Include whose rockers you use what heads are on the car. How much HP you make and operating RPM. Or tell about engines that have failed and what oiling problem that you think caused it. My next build which will be a 4.250 stroke motor. I will be reaming the main bearing feed.s to 9/32" and going to a single line external system and keeping the RPM below 7000. Now I'm up in the air about restricting oil to the rockers. I don't think I will and never considered it before but now that thought is is my head.

I use the Federal Mogul narrow full groove main bearings and I make the cam oil the rockers full time, I restrict the oil passgae in the block to the roller rockers on motors with non Indy heads(they oil the rockers externally full time ) with a #6 brass set screw with a .039 hole in it that I drill with a numbered drill bit I have not and do not ream the main oil passages, have not seen a need for it I have a bunch of stock stroke motors and stroker motors, 3.91 to 4.5 stroke, with ths combination being raced and driven on the street with no oiling issues in 12 yrs My 518 C.I. low deck pump gas motor gets shifted at or above 7000 RPM on every run, I had the motor out and looked at the bearings this past winter and all of them looked great, it has around 85 runs on it plus 30 + dyno pulls and 300 + miles street driving It has a stock Mopar 6 pak(6 quarts inside) oil pan on it with the 3/8 stock oil pick up installed, I use 5W20WT Valvoline non synthetic oil also Motor made 727 HP with 710 Ft lbs. torque on Oregon pump swill on a DTS engine dyno, Indy SR M.W. ports, single 1050 Dominator on a Indy 400-3 intake, Comp Cams solid roller cam and 10.78 to 1 compression ratio. IHTHS

Hey Cab thank's for your response. I thought this would gain some traction and maybe end up being tech archived for a quick way to find the info alot of people seem to look for regarding BB oiling mod's. Maybe this will give it a bump.
