Just looking for RPM Range for reliability..

Is 7000 safe consistantly or 6500 better.

My specs are

340 40+
Eagle H Beam
Diamond Pistons 13.1 comp
Custom Billit cam 670/310
Crane Gold Roller set up
ARP head studs
X Heads with 5/16 chevy valves/titatium locks and more just cant remember everything right now.

I am hoping to get two years with out pulling this this apart with racing a 3-4 times a year.

I have spun this to 7200 with no hic-ups and still pulling. Just curious what people are turning?

Which carb and intake? Usually the stock type heads make the motors quit pulling hard around 6400 RPM Most of the of the stock head type SB motors like yours I have dyno tested made peak power at 5900 RPM with a single carb, one single carb. W2 motor made peak power at 6300 RPM I like to do shift RPM testing at the track, make two or three runs shifting at 5500 RPM, then 6000 RPM and then 6500 RPM and so on. Find the RPM the motor likes to be shifted at the best by the time slips and use that

Your heads, intake and carb will tell you BUT I have
been running a stock block with a 3.79 crank to 8200
rpm for years.. same rods as you have but with different
pistons with a good balance job... this is with W-2 heads

I run my Shady Dell 368 59 degree W2, Callies crank, Carrillo rods, T&D rockers, 720 lift to 8500 without problems. Wouldn't spin it past that though.

I have a prosystem 780 speced for my combo and victor intake. The heads were milled and ported pretty good. The intake was gasket matched with a little runner work.It has trick flow valve stems and Titatium valves,locks,5/16th stem. plus lots of work on the ehaust side. I think flows 280 or around there. I never got a copyof the info so forgive my memory. The assembley was balanced. I think we took off about 28 grams of rotating weight, It was done by a a friend who does a lot of top NMRA motors.I helped but did more of keeping the fridge full of beer.

It seems like the valve train is the week link in a SB mopar with stock style heads. So we lightend as much of the top as possable. But just want to see what guys are turning..Im feeling 7000 should be safe for a long time,, But when I get more track time, I will try the differnt rpm shift, etc, My first time out was rough. My set up was far from right.

I had a auto with only 3000 stall and a 5.13gear. So my 60'was 2.1-2.6 with a 13.02 best time at 102 mph. So I am now going 4.56 with a 4spd...

I also ran 275/15 st tires and spun from 4000-7000 rpm and ran out of motor 20 feet or so at 7000 rpm before 1/4

I am going to try a also using my 29/9 slicks next time out..

Ran 340's to 7,000 for years, even with stock rods and heavy trw pistons. Personally I think it is very safe but I never ran past that unless by accident which has happened many times.

Do yourself a big favor and make a pass or two shifting at 6800-7000 them make a couple of passes shifting at 6400.
I think you will be real surprised at what you discover.

I would be supprised if it doesnt make a notisable difference.

Its not what the head flow that matters its the volume or cross section
