I have a coolant leak behind the driver side motor mount on my 493. I believe it to be the freeze plug. The motor was rebuild and this is the second season running before the leak. Would like to know if any other recommendations for repairs. Before I remove and install new freeze plug.

I think the two choices are replace or stop leak. To replace, I imagine you would need to slightly jack up the engine, support with a wood block under the pan and pull the mount to get at it. Pull the old plug, clean the hole thoroughly with water, let it dry and install a new plug with Permatex.

If the plug is otherwise secure and just leaking a little, some stop leak would take care of it. Not ideal but quick and easy.

My first choice would be a new plug.

Moroso ceramic seal , they make 2 kinds , one for a car that has antifreeze and one that runs water , follow the directions on the bottle .

Check the block real close. My 440 block I had was cracked at the plug hole.Couldnt see it till I tanked it.It didnt leak when in the car but the crack expanded when hot tanked. It was across the SP hole.Rocky

I've always believed BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. So, I removed the motor mount and replaced the rusted out freeze plug with a new plug.

I want to thank all who replied for their time and all information given was very helpful. Thanks,
