I've heard the length is different, but that's coming 3rd hand and off memory so here's a so that you can get a definative answer.

Neither; *I* win! ...Mike was just commenting to me that I was right about the steering column being a different length, PS to non PS.

As far as your issue goes (again going off memory) I believe you can swap the parts from one to the other to convert. Which way are you trying to go?

Though I certainly don't recommend Jims; take a look at the steering column/box adaptor here:

Have a manual steer now but column needs total restro. Found a complete restro power steer column on the cheap and bought it.Was hoping it was easy swap but now finding that to not be true.

A manual column is longer. Also, on a 70, the outer steering shafts are different lengths. You can lengthen and/or shorten the column as needed. You'll have to redrill and reinstall some nylon pins to retain the columns ability to collapse. I just did this in my 70 B body. Do a search and you should find the post.

If memory serves me correct....The only thing different is the actual shaft. This of coarse providing that the two columns you have are the same in being either console auto/4speed or column shift. The shaft can be stretched and shortened, but the lower part of the shaft is slightly different if your doing an accurate restoration. The shaft itself is actually two pieces and the upper (steering wheel) parts are the same. I actually had stripped splines on my original steering column shaft (manual) and used the upper shaft portion from a spare (power) column I had. worked perfect. Hope this isn't confusing...

Scott, You will have to disassemble them both a little to remove the shaft. If you have a Factory Service Manual it would help. If not PM me I will scan the pages and send it to you.
