.......ok guys, I am itching to start my new 340, I am almost ready.......am I going to have a lake of tranny fluid on my garage floor if I try running it without a yoke in the back of the trans? Common sense tells me yes, but the Frenchman in me wants to light her off........

If its a 727 or 904, you should be Ok if you leave it in PARK, since the pump only runs in gear and in neutral.

Thanks, I thought so............the trans is rebuilt, so I will have to run it in neutral to fill the converter. Damn, I was so close!

huh ???

FYI The pump runs ALL THE TIME , the torque convertor is bolted to the crankshaft correct ? There is cooler flow in park though it's not alot and there is pressure being built anytime the pump is spinning , I'm not sure if there is a path that dumps the fluid back into the trans pan but you have a potential for a leak .

Leave it in park and stick a yoke in the back of the trans , if you haven't put in any fluid in the trans yet DO so or you run the risk of running the pump dry and scoring it up and hurting the convertor. Also be careful , the mainshaft of the trans will spin in neutral without the driveshaft in and the weight of the wheels on the ground to hold it .

Don't listen to the frenchmen in you ...

Why shouldn't I be anxious, it has been 2 months since I set it in..........and I have been setting it up for half of that. I am going to get it to fire, then I will wait until I get a yoke. I don't have the right one, but I should have one coming from a member, thanks for all of the advice.

i never said don't be anxious , but if you want to potentially damage the trans and make a mess on the floor, have at it , it's not my stuff .....

Thanks John, I am going to wait anyway. I did form a small lake on my own, I had to jack the car up to retrieve a washer I dropped while playing with the coil.......I had put 4 quarts in to start with. Glad I didn't put more! Maybe a pint came out.......nice and red!
