From a motorhome, have potential buyer wants to know what the bolt pattern is crankshaft to flywheel, is it a 6 or an 8? Is there way to tell without removing the tranny? Also did they use 6 pack rods in the 413 truck motors? I hear a block with those heavy duty rods is worth more than a block with the standard rods. -BD

My '72 MH 413, has a 6 bolt crank, I was told these are 8 bolt motors so who knows? you can't tell with getting the convert. out of the way.

I doubt it has 6BBL rods, but havn't swapped pans yet. I would bet a cheap lunch you'll find LY rods in the 413. A 440 might have them.

Mine is a TH block, and has a six bolt crank. 440 rods too.

HAH! "six pack" rods are an answer to a question that shouldn't have been asked. Their heavy shanks add stress to the already-overstressed puny 3/8" rod bolts and add reciprocating mass to an engine whose pistons are lethal weapons, they are more than 2 lb each with pins.

It'll have a six-bolt crank, the 8-bolt was from the '50s. Basically it is a 440 crippled by 27 fewer cubic inches. Several board members have hauled 413s to the 'yard after unsuccessful attempts at selling them. You won't get rich from it.

Oh, Common Doggy! I have less then $100 into the '72 turd, it's in good shape for the short block, ended up with at set of known to be good 902's with bigger stainless valves for nothing! AND an offer for a blower... I just might end up with a 6-71 street motor for LESS then $3000 What the

Can't beat that, and the viual impact of a blower motor even 20% underdriven at 5-7psi
