what's the typical cost to change out the third member on a 742 case?

these 4:11's are just too low and i'm not ready to dump $3000 into an OD tranny yet.I'm thinking a 3:55 yukon 3rd member as recommended by a mopar race guy would work

Taken out of context, this statement takes on a whole new meaning.

I think with all new parts, around $1350.

Used ones with suregrip seem to go for $500+ easily.

Changing gears is the cost of gears (250 to be safe) + install kit (figure $40 min) + about $250 to set them up and assemble/rebuild, + bearing $ if needed. If you know someone with a press who is knowledgeable, you can save the $$ on the labor and you'd just be out the $$ for gears and bearings and install kit.

thanks,i have a complete set 3:23 and this 4:11 set that's nearly new i could sell to cover the cost, also that cost estimate is getting close to 50% of the cost of an over drive tranny

you just want to change the ring and pinion from the 4.10 to 3.55???

I usually pay 2 hrs of shop time plus any parts..pinion seal...

about 175.00 dollars...

Is that your question?
