I see a lot if differences in master cylinder appearance on even so called high dollar restorations. Some appear bare metal with plated lid & others I see are all black like the booster. Are both considered correct?

You see a lot of different master cylinders and a lot of different appearances on restored AAR and TA master cylinders, but there is only one correct master cylinder and one correct appearance. It has a casting number 2229171 and the entire assembly is painted black including the cap and bale wire.

I see a so called untouched car on the Trans Am cuda site and the master cylinder is not black. Which is correct.I just cleaned mine, do i need to paint it now.

This is correct, even the vacuum fitting was painted as part of the assembly.

The paint on the master cylinder especially did not wear well, even on low mile examples. Two photos of an original from a low mileage car;
