I would like to know what the diameter is of a stock 340 clutch fan. My car has a Mopar Performance viscous clutch fan kit on it but did not have a fan shroud when I got it. I bought an original 22" fan shroud to put on the car only to find out the fan will hit the shroud at the top. The MP fan looks to measure about 17 1/2 to 18" in diameter. Were the stock fans a little smaller?

In 1970, E-Body..
The fan size for the V8 340 was 18 1/2" 7 blade, 2 1/2" width.
Also the 440 & 426 used the same size, for the 383 the size dropped a 1/2" to 18" 7 blade, 2" width.

Hope that helped..

Just my $0.02..

Thats why I posted the info by model and year.
The mentioned Mopar fan kit (4120758) is touted to be universal whereas it really isn't..
Another drawback of the kit is the height of the clutch fan, too high for certain installs...

Just my $0.02..

The A body 340 used an 18", 7 blade, 2 1/4"..
If the rear end ratio was 3.55, 3.91, 4.10 (performance axle) and the radiator was #2998945 (still 22") then the fan was an 18 1/2", 7 blade, 2 1/2" and clutch fan .

Should fit. The MP unit in my 68 Dart with stock shroud mounting fits.

What is the p/n on the shroud you have? There are two from 68 to 72?. Once for cast iron water pump, another for aluminum water pump.

What is the p/n of your 22" radiator?

Do you have headers? Could someone have shimmed the motor mounts for header clearance and now the fan hits.

There is one for 68-69 2785614 for the round top tank and one for 70-72 2998325 for the the square top tank. They should work with the stock fan and the viscous fan.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

I am using the newer 5 blade "MP style" clutch fan (off a late '80's B van) on my '68 Barracuda with the early cast iron water pump. I have the stock 1968 OE 22" radiator with a mid '70's /6 Valiant fan shroud (mounted upside down with very minor mods). Every thing clears fine, no rubbing. I agree, check that the motor has not been shimmed and that the rubber biscuit motor mounts are intact.

Yep, that's it. The mounts are shimmed. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I will have to try and find a smaller fan if I want to use the shroud. Were any of the factory clutch fans smaller in diameter, maybe 17-17.5"?

The 70-71 parts book shows six cyl A bodies with a/c (so should be clutch type) used a 17" fan. Six cyl B & E bodies were 18". Maybe other years of A bodies also had 17".

Why not purchase the Derale 17117, 17" metal fan for clutch type. Available many places including Amazon..
You need to verify rotation direction.
