I soaked my pilot bushing in oil prior to installing it. Is there any other lubrication I should employ prior to installing gearbox?

I am aware of where excess can end up. Just wondering if an oil soaked bushing is sufficient or if there is any additional tried and true method.

Never heard of of soaking the bushing ? I just put it together with the slightest dab of antiseize , most of the time the 2 parts are locked together .

Thanks for both responses John. I think my old shop teacher in high school taught me the soaking in oil trick. Bronze is very pourous and will capture and retain oil.

Chevys need soaking , Lubrite Mopar pilot bushing do not, according to all the Mopar factory service manuals from the late 1960 and early 1970s that I have. The bushing are refferred to as Lubrite

I use wheel bearing grease. A tiny bit flinging off onto the clutch has never caused an issue for me.

Guys, Guys, Guys!

Pilot bushings are made of oil-impregnated sintered bronze. It was invented by Chrysler engineers. It does NOT need anything done to it to run.

I have never heard of soaking a pilot bushing, your old shop teacher was misguided.

As for bronze, all of the bronze I have used, and I have specified and used a lot of bronze in industrial applications, IS NOT POROUS. Bronze valves hold pressure through the bodies just like cast iron or steel.

Sintered bronze bushings start their life as coarse grained powder that is pressed into a shape, then baked or sintered. The bushing is then impregnated with lubricant. It needs no further lubrication. When you change your clutch, change the bushing at the same time. That's why it's in the clutch kit.

Me too. Don't pack it in there, just swipe it on.

This is one of those situations where it actually is a good idea to open up the service manual and to follow the instructions.
