I use wheel bearing grease. A tiny bit flinging off onto the clutch has never caused an issue for me.

Guys, Guys, Guys!
Pilot bushings are made of oil-impregnated sintered bronze. It was invented by Chrysler engineers. It does NOT need anything done to it to run. I have never heard of soaking a pilot bushing, your old shop teacher was misguided.
As for bronze, all of the bronze I have used, and I have specified and used a lot of bronze in industrial applications, IS NOT POROUS. Bronze valves hold pressure through the bodies just like cast iron or steel.
Sintered bronze bushings start their life as coarse grained powder that is pressed into a shape, then baked or sintered. The bushing is then impregnated with lubricant. It needs no further lubrication. When you change your clutch, change the bushing at the same time. That's why it's in the clutch kit.
