I just bought a pair of 325 50 R15 BFG G-Force T/A drag radials. I'm wanting to know if I should purchase a 10 in or 12 in rim. These are going on my Duster which is mini tubbed and already has tires on it that are wider than these.

Thank you,

I'd go with the 12s myself. less chance of the tread "ballooning" on you due to too much air pressure. the wider rim will allow the tire to sit flatter.

a 325 is nearly 13" wide. I think that'd be too much to try and squeeze onto a 10" rim.

Many guys on here are running that tire on a 10" rim.

I guess it doesn't matter than 10" is within the manufacturers recommended rim sizes either.

Yep--BFG says 9-12" rims. Considering how many 275/60's are rolling around on 8" (my car included) a 10" would be fine. So would a 12.

I would put them on a 12 inch rim. This is what the tire will look like on a 10 inch.

Thanks for the replies. I was kind of leaning towards the 12 in rim but wanted some more educated opinions.

Now I just need to figure out the backspacing that I'll be needing and get the rims ordered. Does anybody know of a good source for the tool that you use to figure out the correct backspacing or of a better/cheaper way of doing this?

Thanks,

10" I think 12 would be too wide. I tired to look it up here; http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp?action=submit
but I get this for your size "Unrecognized tire size" I used 325/60/15 and it recommends a 9-11" rim.

I never said that he COULDN'T run a 10" rim. I said that with a tire that's nearly 13" wide on the tread, would be much better on a 12" wide rim vs a 10" wide rim.

afterall, his question was "which should I get, 10 or 12" not "will this tire be ok to run on a 10" rim?"

Use your existing rims to figure it out.

What is their width and backspacing?

If the 325 is as wide as you'll ever go, I'd go with 10" rims, they will be fine, and you could go smaller if needed.

When I get home today after work I'll take a tire off the car and measure the rim. I know that the tires that are on it now are 29 x 15.5 x 15's.

There's the right answer! ...and FWIW if 9" is the smallest recommended size and 12" is the largest, then perfect would be 10.5" so 10" would be the closest so that would be my choice.

I measured the rims that are on the car now. They are 11 in wide with a 6 1/4 backspace. So if I go with a 10 in wide rim with the same backspacing will the tires still fit in the wheelwells the same or will I have to change the backspacing because of a less wide rim?

Thanks,

A 10" wide rim with the same backspacing should in theory put the tire a bit closer to your leaf springs.

I thought the backspacing represents the leaf side of the rim. So a 10" rim with 5" BS would have the remaining 5" towards the quarter panel. A 7" rim with 5" backspace would be the same on the leaf spring side, but only 2" towards the quarter panel.

Wondering where you got a 11" wide rim???? are you maesuring the outside lip??? rims are measured the inside lip where the tire touches

Yes, but a narrower rim with the same backspacing and the same tire width will shift over the bulge of the tire a bit to the inside. The tire stays centered on the rim no matter what.
