I am installing my A833 tranny. Do I need to check the alignment between the motor and the tranny?

If your using this bell housing on the block for the first time it can't hurt I use a dial indicator on the flywheel or crankshaft and indicate the hole in the bell housing to see how far out they are to each other If it is more than .015 out of round total get the offset bell housing alignment dowels to correct it Lots of work but worth it to avoid future problems

FSM says it needs to be within .006 on the bellhousing face squareness and .004 on the bore runout or .008 TIR. You need a dial indicator with a magnetic base. mount the base on the fly wheel, you turn the engine over and measure the hole, see if its round, if its beyond .008 total indicator reading (TIR) then you need to install offset bushings. You use the dial on the face, if its beyond .006 then you shim the bell housing. Tim

Let me get this straight. Currently I have the motor out of the car on an engine hoist. I am going to mount the flywheel and bell housing. Mount the magnetic base to the flywheel and turn the crank. Sorry I am a stuck on the total run out part. Do I mark the bell housing at 12,3,6,9 o'clock and check the readings at all points.

That part always drive me nuts, I try to find the low or high spot to set the dial indicator to zero and then turn it and watch, write the numbers on each 1/4
