I have a 69 GTX. There is dried polishing compound in the louvers just forwrd of the windshield. It looks like crap and I want to remove it. I tried a dremel tool with a soft pad but that is dulling the paint. Would 2000 grit sand paper damage the paint if used very soft? Any suggestions??

I would start with a Q tip & rubbing alcohol... If it's truly compound it should break down chemically without getting physically aggressive.....

try muprhys oil soap and warm water. it may not be very aggresive but will not hurt teh finish on the louvers. I know it cuts wax like crazy. dont ask how I know its a long stupid story.

Thank you

Wax and Degreaser, same stuff that you use as a prepwipe for painting.

set a wet sponge (or sponge with wax remover) on top for 20 minutes or so first. Hopefully this will soften the crusted stuff before you start. I've got paint flaking in my louvers where they were not prepped correctly before repaint.
