there are a myriad of w2 models, at least the rectangular port versions will go over 700, extreme welding and porting takes them over 750...

I'll bet most guys won't want to pay what a good ported W2 costs. It takes alot of work to get W2's to support 700+HP. And that costs $$$.
It's cheaper to buy Indy's cnc ported heads most times. I know Jeff at Modern has a program for W2's, maybe he'll chime in on what he's seen his ported W2's make for power...his cnc job may be priced better than hand ported W2's. Brian

Sounds interesting. I know I'd love to get mine ported.

W2's are a great head and respond very well to some porting work. My W2 headed pump gas 408 dipped into the high 9's last year and flow a little over 300cfm with the stock 2.02 valve. When I ported these I didn't even push for higher numbers as I am only running a 550 lift Racer Brown solid lift cam in this engine. I am also running a powerglide transmission and not the quicker 904. I ran these times with a 750 holley carb and will try a 1050 dominator this season. My next set will have either a 2.05 valve or maybe even a 2.08 valve. The stock flow numbers maxed out at 260cfm on my W2's before porting.
1970 Duster Edelbrock headed 408 5.984@112.52 422 Indy headed small block 5.982@112.56 mph 9.42@138.27

Thanks for all the replies. My dad is absolutely convinced that he can make 2.0hp per cu.in. with this combo. Only time will tell.
Im sure for your dad to be convinced he must be getting a comp/eliminator engine builder to build the engine. 2hp per cube is doable but be prepared to rev the engine 8to9 thousand rpm.
