Which one would be the best all-around carb for a 100% street driven '66 300 383/727?

properly set up TQ, no comparison in idle, throttle response or ultimate CFM.

Yep; i'll take the thermoquad over the other two. The one problem is the availability of parts for the thermoquad. When properly set up and tuned the thermoquad all the way. Dave

You should just use a Holley , a TQ will burn your car to the ground ...

What world are you living in? I suppose a Holley never had a float stick and dump gas all over the place? On a street car, I run nothing but Thrmoquads

I'm assuming stock square bore intake. Either afb or avs. AVS was use in the emissions era & was calibrated accordingly but can be made to run but with everything being equal I would prefer an AFB or an edelbrock replacement for performance.

Robert,
FWIW - AVS's aren't only from emissions era. I've pulled a few of them out of '68 383/727 C-bodies, like Sport Furies.

67 Satellite convert 383/2bbl column 727 3.23

so there were no carb calibration mods for emission purposes in '68? I was thinking that from 68 onward that they were all tweaked to some extent(gov't regs).

I HAD a edelbrock AFB 800 cfm carb that never ran good no matter how it was jetted. Got a NOS thermoquad and sent it to Demonsizzler....WOW ! My car never ran so smooth..never loads up ..it just rips ! I gained 4mpg at the same time. I here that the AVS 800 edelbrock IS a better carb than the AFB but I would get a thermoquad for a street strip type Mopar if you could.

If he has a later stock or an aftermarket spreadbore intake then as said a thermoquad is vastly superior & demonsizzler is the man.

Thanks for the input. Looks like a DemonSizzled TQ is the way to go. What would be the best intake?
(I currently have the stock squarebore intake- looks like the secondary holes are just a tad bigger than the primaries) Will the AFB linkages bolt directly up to a TQ or will they have to be modified?

For HP and good street-manners WITH decent MPG ... the TQ is as close to FI as you will get using a carb.

BUTTTTT there is no need to spend a ton of money on an expensive rebuilder. Just pick-up a BIG Chrysler service manual and you are good-to-go.

As far as an intake choice ... your application ? .. an Eddy Streetmaster.

If you have a smogger era TQ (9000 series), you will definitely want to send it to demonsizzler to get rewored.
