It COULD have been an 8 1/4"! They were phased in late '69. My '70 318 Charger had am 8 1/4" axle. They are also listed in the '69 Plymouth factory service manual.
If it is an 8 3/4" and is original, it may have the small 1 3/8" pinion '741 case. TRY to get gears or a SG for THAT oddball!

Yeah, I am just curious as I am buying a B-body out of a junkyard and it is sitting in the ground too much to differentiate until I get it up on the trailer.

Not sure about '69, but my '67 Belvedere, slant-6/3-spd has a 7-1/4.

Slant six cars would have a 7 1/4.. Stay away..

Unless someone broke the old rear and swapped in an 8 3/4.

I think 1970 was the first year of the 8 1/4 maybe not I knew a guy that had a 1970 Charger Vitamin C car with a slant six automatic trans and a rear end that had the rear inspection cover,it was not a Dana 60

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

'69 was the first year for the 8 1/4" but they were mostly used behind small V8's (318, 383-2). The 7 1/4" is more likely to be found in a /6 car.

What's left of the one in my side yard has a 7-1/4" under it.

Sure grip is interchangable for all 8-3/4s. Bearings for the SG are different between cone and clutch type but it's the ID that's different, they're the same as far as the case goes. I took one from a 741 and put it in a different case. Still have the case and gears from the 741, should probably scrap it.
