89 Dakota 3.9 V6 216,000 miles. On cold start up, fairly loud metallic sound coming from bottom end. Within 10 seconds or less, quiets down to normal. Been using 20W-50 oil and the consistency is fine, no foreign substances in it. Truck runs great and you will not hear the noise until the next cold start up.

Will a high volume pump clear the stock pan and is the pan free from crossmembers?

First, change the oil and put a GOOD filter on. One with an anti-drainback valve.
If that doesn't do it, look into going into the bottom end (pump).

I change the oil every 3000 miles and I'm 1000 into this one. Mopar filter on there now.

That will only create more problems, just get a good oil pump

The fact that the noise is gone until next cold start kind of means the pump is good. It probably has a bit of extra clearance in the bottom end. I'd leave it.

I'm looking at the WIX 495-51348 filter. I'm not sure if the gray Mopar filters have the anti-drain back valves in them. Also, is the 20W-50 a good viscosity for this application?
