I have an old hood tachometer that I haven't seen work. I believe it's a Dixco tach and it has three wires: red, black and green. Does anyone know if the 3-wire Dixco tach had its own light (powered by those 3 wires)? I found an old Moparts posting talking about hood tachs and I think someone said the older tachs had 3 wires while the newer tachs had 4 wires. I didn't see any mention of illumination in that old posting, though.

thanks

Pretty sure that you need the 4th wire - seperate circuit for lighting.

Should have one for ground, one for power, one for coil and one for light.

Just off the top of my head . . .

Cheers

Mark

Some old tachs used the power wire to light them and when you turned on the key the light was on. You could just hook up the black and red wires to a battery and see if the tach lights.
