So I am going to install a new fuel system but my new Mallory 250 pump is FRIGGEN HUGE so I'm not really finding a suitable spot to mount it unlike my comp 140. Do you think I can get away with mounting it on a angle so it doesn't hang down so much. The instructions say mount it vertical so it does not flood the pump housing but how much from vertical do you think would be acceptable before it's a problem?

I made a bracket and mounted a Carter pump off the right side of the center section above the rear end. Like you I struggled to find a good spot. Not too many options.

Now that I installed a dana 60 I lost all my useable room above the diff-other than a small fuel filter so the frame rail is about the only area. I could mount it vertical but it hangs down a lot lower than I like....

I mounted my Magnafuel 275 pump and filter in the right rear corner of the rear sub frame and rear valance behind the stock fuel tank, my tank has a center sump welded onto the bottom of the stock tank so that location puts the pump behind and almost the same level as the sump outlet I have seen some guys cut a hole into the trunk floor to have the top of the pump protrude into the trunk so the pump doesn't hang down to far It is way better to have the pump lower and behind the tank outlet than in front and or above the outlet, let gravity help feed the pump inlet IHTHs

One of my biggest problems though Cab is I that I don't want to cut the car. I had thought about welding in the sump when I bought my new tank but I decided against it for appearance reasons so this is what I get in return

Mount the pump so the inlet on it is lower than he pick up in the pick up in the tank Preferrably behind the tank pick up, look at that right rear corner

Well, I went out there and checked it out and there is no other place other then the rail that I have pictured. If I didn't run full exhaust the rear would be do-able but not the way it is. Sooo ..tht being said do you think I can get away with mounting it on the angle I have pictured?

You say you don't want to cut the car , is it a 340 car ?

I assume you only drive it on the nicest of days in the best conditions ? Otherwise that pump is just going to be covered in road grime unless you have the room to shield it.

How wide a tire do you run? Will something be connected tothe port that pokes out toward the tire ?

I'd be looking at a different pump if it were me, that thing is huge .

I made a bracket that hangs off the shock studs, the pump hangs between the axle housing and the fron of the fuel tank

Have about 8000 miles and 100 passes on it, works great.

I've a holly blue pump but a longer pump will fit I just couldn't have mine visible below the tank. Not sure about the dana though

Your pretty much bang on all counts. Yes, it is a 340 car and yes it only gets driven on the nicest days(400 miles a year). When I restored it I tried to reverse the years of bastardizing that happens so I hate to start cutting and modifying the body again. I run the factory skinny rims and tires on the street and also run 15x8 rims with 26x11.5's slicks, but the pump will clear all of the rim/tires combos. The pump does fit behind the rim vertically- it just hangs lower than I like- it fits MUCH nicer on a angle.
With the dana in there there just isn't room for much anymore. I could mount it to the diff but I would prefer to mount it to the body if I have a choice...

Do you have enough space to mount it vertical and fan up some type of shield? Some deer metal and a few bends would prevent grime and road debris damage.

I'm not sure about a shield, I haven't got my replacement wheels for the larger bolt pattern axles yet so it's hard to size up anything right now. The way the pump is in my picture is backwards actually- the lines will be facing towards the inside of the rail- not pointing out towards the tire as I show it.

Mounting a big electric Hi Po fuel pump In front of and above the fuel inlet in the tank is a big no no Below and behind is better I'm going to post a picture of my 1969 Dart with the muffs mounted between the outer fenders and the rear subframes, my Duster was done that way first because of the coil over shocks being in the way for the exhaust between the stock gas tank and rear sub frames I use to have a picture stored in my camera of the fuel pump mounted there from my Duster but I cleared it off the disc By having the muffs mounted outside the rear sub frames behind the rear end makes it a lot quieter in the car and frees up that corner for the fuel pump. My Dart had the springs moved into the rear subframes a long time ago when I bracket raced that car with a BB in it. That picture is to show the angle of the rear shackles for drag racing instead of having them like the stock angles are IHTHs How about mounting the pump on the inside of the rear valanced instead of having it mounted in front of the tank outlet Can you safely mount that pump horizontly? What does Mallory recommend? I think you can on some pumps and not on others due to the weep hole between the pump and the motor

I can get the pump lower on the rail then the tank pickup but mounting it anywhere rear of the axle is just not possible- the pump is simply to big(I don't want people to see it and the lines hanging down from the rear of the car). The instructions say mount it vertical so it does not flood the pump housing but I just can't see that happening on the mild angle that I've pictured- there is no weep hole either. I know mounting it ahead of the tank is not the hot ticket but I don't think I have another option after looking under the car again
I thought about moving springs and exhaust around but I'm just not sure I want to go there or if it's worth it.
damn.

What about getting a different pump , something like an aeromotive that would easily mount in the area above the axle ?

Agreed. That Mallory is enormous.

But if you must use the Mallory, I'm sure the slight angle you've shown wouldn't be a problem. I've seen people mount Holley Blue pumps completely upside down (opposite of what the directions say), and they still work fine. I'm sure 30 degrees won't affect it.
