Just wondering , what ever happened to the mega block molds and why nobody purchased them and started producing these blocks. They were good blocks and weigh less then the current blocks ( world & koleno).
Chrysler doesnt sell that stuff

Yep...far as I know tooling is not for sale at any price, tools are most likely still at the foundry, and there wasn't enough physical space in the block for them to be super consistant....which is why the new blocks have material added all the way around.

They are probably considered intellectual property. And think about it, if the molds had been any good at producing usable castings, they'd still be in use. R.

Too much liability if they sold the molds to someone, then that company had issues and people bring the blocks back to Chrysler for warranty. I'm guessing the molds were destroyed by now. I would guess that the molds were returned to Chrysler after the contracts were cancelled, and then sent to a chop and recycling facility. Years ago I inquired to Motor Wheel on the Magnum 500 tooling. Long gone.

If they distroyed the molds, they should of not stopped there. They should have destroyed the equipment and tooling they were machined on based on my experience with my block.... You know, kinda like disposing of the evidence after a crime scene.....
My mega was pretty damn nice... very thick bores... also they dont destroy that stuff... it goes to a ware house to rot to death... my opinion is if they dont use it after X years they should sell that stuff... but Chrysler never does

I wonder what a new one in the crate is worth today considering the current choices available

I could be wrong but weren't they cast at the Foundry in Indy that Chrysler closed and then demolished about 6 or 7 years ago? It was just east of the west side loop of I-465 on the south side of I-70.
Guy's from that foundry/casting plant transferred to St.Louis after it closed.
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

You are not wrong. They were definitely cast there for a while.
