Push rod is a push rod is a push rod......... Now, the quality of any particular push rod is another story. There are push rods floating out there that wear out way too early (guess they aren't hardened properly). Maybe someone will chime in on a quality product. I have never heard of a "special" push rod for a Carter High Volume pump..

Yes I have one that came with the motor, I have to check the condition. I just figured for the low cost of a replacement I would change it.

They do wear out over time, so it's a good idea to replace at the time of a rebuild. Could mean the difference between possible fuel starvation issues and not.

This is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Mopar-383-44...=item3372874f41

Don't buy the POS MP unit like I did.

I'm on my second MP pushrod now, and I can tell you it's wearing down like the first, since my fuel pressure keeps dropping. I didn't think it was possible to wear down so quickly. Engine only has 2,500 miles on it.

MP ones are junk... I've had good results reusing the 40 year old original.... It should measure 3.25.... If it's shorter toss it...

Thanks for posting the measurement. That is a useful tip.

Thanks that is great info. I was just about to order a MP pushrod. What exactly wears out on them? The ends or the surface wear it rides?

The end, they get shorter and as they get shorter it reduces the fuel pump travel reducing fuel volume & pressure so the engine starves for fuel...
