I'm noticing that some 71 Duster 340's have the small "Plymouth" emblem on the decklid above the pass side tail light, and some do not. The 71 press photo shows the emblem (and a standard "Duster" decal), see attached pic. Did all Duster 340s have the emblem? Or just ones from certain plants? Or is there no ryhme or reason why some did and some didn't?

My 1971 factory GY8 Duster 340 does not have the "Plymouth" badge, and it is generally original in appearance. The "Duster" emblem on my car is the same as shown on the photo posted.

AFAIK The "Plymouth" emblem was on the trunk of 1970 Duster 340s. Sometimes the photo shoot cars for a given model year, are photographed so early before actual model year production, that remnants like the "Plymouth" badge from the current production make it to the photo shoot cars.

Also, looking at the posted photo of the 1971 Duster 340, take note that the photoshoot car has turn down dual exhaust. That was a 1970 Duster 340 exclusive (no bright exhaust tips were offered on Duster 340s for 1970 - these were available on 1970 Dart Swinger 340s) and 1971 Duster 340s included bright exhaust tips as standard factory equipment, according to my factory ownership documentation, which is shown on the factory window sticker for my car.

I noticed member Steve340's Duster has one on it.

FWIW, my 71 did not appear to have one. Oct 14, 70 SPD, LA built. I'll try to confirm this with the orig owner.

Good catch!

What was the build date / date of manufacturer of Steve's car? Thinking it might be that early 1971 340 Dusters had the emblem. Also, is Steve's car a V24 hood callout treatment car? If not, maybe that has something to do with it?

Finally where was Steve's car assembled?

Mine has one but they are put on with adhesive tape so i'm sure over the years alot of Dusters lost theirs. I know everytime i wax it my towel gets caught on it and almost rips it right off...

My car was built in Jan of 71. It was built at the Hamtramck plant. It has the orange engine but no V24 code. I was thinking of doing a complete restoration, but now I'm thinking of just rebuilding the engine and leaving it mostly original. It still has a very nice interior. The hood and right fender were painted at one time and the red does not match so I might get those re-shot.
