I'm working on a Dana 60 that came out of a early (1966 to 69) B body, I noticed that it does not have a oil passage under the rear pinion bearing like all the other Dana 60 I've worked on. This is probally the only OEM early B body Dana 60 that I've work on in a long time Is this normal or not I have one other Dana 60 in the shop now but no OEM Mopar B bodies or other OEM Mopar Dana 60 now, the other truck Dana I have, 60-2, I looked at has a passage from the front pinion bearing back under the pinion gear to the back that comes out behind the rear pinion bearing This does not look like a casting flaw, it looks like it was designed that way

Cab , Dana 60's are 66-67 and then 69-70 for B bodies . I have a 68 and 70 at home I can look at .

The build number and date code are stamped on the right axle tube ...

I just did a 60 the other week, it had that oil slot, and I just yesterday did a 70, it also had that slot, I know it did because there is a nasty pocket back there that chunks of debris can hide, and a total pain to get it all cleaned out. Maybee the really earlie ones dont have that. The 60 I did was a 1970 unit out of a charger that was now in a 4x4 1/2 ton dodge.

The passage in the bottom of the pinion bore usaly goes from the forward side of the front pinion brg to the area between the front and rear pinion brgs (to allow excess oil from building up on the back side of the pinion seal) I don't recall ever seeing the lower passage on Dana 60 go from front to back...there is a pocket in close proximitythough.

I'll take a picture of both types and post them tomorrow when the light in the shop is better I called Dutchmen in Portland,OR this morning and they didn't know but they did refer me to a local 4WHD shop that they do a bunch of Dana 60 work for. I called him and he said that the stock Dana 60 can come both ways I'll post the pictures tomorrow

This is a picture of the B body front lube passage that goes from the front of the front pinion bearing to behind it and stops between the front and rear pinion bearing

Well that is a drain back right ? so it would fill that area and only way it would drain back would be though the bearing..I would think that the seal would leak.. I got one here I will go look at it..it also came out of a truck//

Let me know, my Duster Dana 60 is a cut down 3/4 ton Ford truck housing with eth 3 1/8 tubes, I'm sure it has the passage but it is at Dutchmen for two more weeks getting the ends welded on straight so I can't look at it now
