I have a 318 done .30 over with a mild cam and a stock 2 bbl. I want to put on an LD4B that I have. What carburetor should I use?

Edelbrock thunder series 600. Once it set up it will work for ever. Remember not more that 5.5 pounds of fuel pressure. If it is hard to start after sitting at the gas station to fill up, you need the pressure regulator. Summit sells a couple of different ones( ie. Mr.Gasket). Holley 600 will perform slighly better, but you will be tinkering with it often.

I am using a Holley 1850 600cfm on my 318. The only tinkering I have had to do involves jetting it for altitude and with the new blue gaskets it is a breeze. Either carb will work well once it is set up. Both carbs don't like too much fuel pressure.
I am going to try out a 570 Street Avenger, I like it better because it has two metering blocks so you can change jets in primary and secondary bowls. The 1850 has a front block and rear plate, although there are kits to use jets in the back.

My OE 318 fuel pump puts out over 7 psi EDIT that was checked w the psi side of a round hand held vacuum gauge and I do not know how dead on they are

I cannot say this enough...if you are going to invest in a new Holley style carb. do yourself a favor and get one with removable air bleeds. You will thank yourself once you get it dialed in.

the LD340 ports are quiet a bit bigger than the ports on most 318 heads, I would not try that unless you want to port the 318 heads bigger than they are now

I got a 625 cfm Carter AVS for $80 off of eBay and rebuilt it with a kit from Mike's for $40. I just fired it up tonight on top of a standard Performer intake and it works great. 85% of a new Thunder AVS for a third of the price. Stupid easy to tune too.

The stock pump should work fine. The Edelbrock will need a regulator though; the needle won't shut off the fuel flow with over about 4.5 lb pressure. The Holly regulator is best.

I am not sure I understand your question Robert.
