What's the correct tail panel stripe set up? More specifically, is there an additional Duster 340 decal the goes over the tail panel stripes? Anyone have a pic of a correct one? Thanks!

The 1971 Duster 340 usually did not have the "340" Duster cloud on the rear, only the Duster cloud. 1970 Dusters did have the "340" Duster cloud on the rear and most 1972 Duster 340's did also. The 1971 Duster 340's had the side 1/4 panel 340 as part of the lower pinstripe. In 1972, the 340 numbers were added to the side stripe as a separate decal, also the side stripes in 1972 had the duster cloud swirl in the end of the side stripe on the 1/4 panel, where 1971 Dusters did not.
So far it's about 50/50 with all the 71 duster 340 survivor or untouched cars I've looked at or have pics saved of. This car has the 340 on the tail panel and is a survivor car as well with only 25k miles on it. I think it would be pretty hard to say which way was more popular. My wedge 71 340 duster happened to not have it.

Thanks for the help. It looks like placement is right in the stripe break. Any idea how far over from either tail light or trunk lock?

From the first picture I posted of the gold v24 340 duster wedge car, it's wearing it's original paint and stripes and the decal is way low from the factory so I would say eye ball it close and call it good. They were definatly not perfect from the factory.
And Steve very cool survivor duster you have!

Intresting fact and well noted. I have seen them both ways as well. As for the '72s, weren't the cloud stripes unique to the Twister? I'm sure some '72 340 cars got them either ways.

My 71 factory Duster 340 has the exact rear tail panel decals as Steve's '71 original paint car.
Ironically, my 1971 is the same exterior color (GY8) - Gold Leaf Metallic - as the machine shown near the top of this thread, by 79 macho.
BTW MuscleMopars, I recall that you were working on the Blue '71 a year or so ago - just small items needed to complete. Is the car for sale, and does it now need anything? That was a Texas car with auto and center console? Does it have factory A/C? Asking price? There appears to be a little blue paint overspray in the passenger side rear wheel well but are there more photos available?

Yes, I haven't touched it in a year or so...Just got too busy with other things. I fully plan on finishing it in the next few weeks, I hope! Contact me through my email if you are interested in it.
