Anyone run into an issue of having the front flex hose being too short when converting to discs from drums upfront on a 71 ebody? I did the 11 3/4 drum to disc swap, followed e-bergs instructions to the "T" (73-76 a body spindles, mounted calipers to the front, used pin type calipers and brackets) and when using an S.S. e body flex hose (from Right Stuff #FH84 (listed as the correct one), which measured about 13 1/2", which is the same measurement as the old drum hose), the hose is too short. The car is up on jack stands so the suspension is fully extended and the wheels are straight forward. The hose seems to be at least 3" too short to allow some slack. Can someone who has done this swap or can measure the hose on a disc equipped car, let me know the length of the hose?
Thanks,
Mark

i always used the calipers to the rear with the hoses that came on the caliper-- with no problems--and i have done more than 10 cars----mopar at first toyed with the caliper high in the front thinking less dust would end up sqeaking on the pads---they reverted to keeping the weight between the axles because it makes handling sense---bob

A 71 E body would have had pin calipers mounted to the front , see if a local autoparts store has the hose to compare to.

I am thinking the pin type caliper needs a longer hose then the slider type caliper. I am also guessing that since the slider types were more prevalent, that the reproduction hoses were based on that length hose???
Bob- if the caliper was rear mounted, the hose would then need an additional bend, wouldn't that make the hose needed even longer? The calipers were bought new, so I didn't have the original hoses.
Thanks

A local member/friend has a 40k mile 72 satellite with factory disc brakes , it has pin type calipers. I don't think the sliders started till at least 73 .

Hi John, yes you are right, pin or KH calipers, no sliders for that year. Can you ask your friend with the 72 if he can measure the length of the hose for me; where it comes out of caliper to top of hose should be fine (following the contour). I know it has to be more the 13.5". I saw my upper bump stop was smushed and put in a new one. That got me 1" closer but I still measure it to be at least 16" overall to leave enough slack, including turning the wheel. Tell your friend thanks for me.

i am thinking that when i bought new hoses i went with a 78 volare--there is a metal support clip 1/2 up the hose that needs to trimmed off---but the lenght is just right---bob

Bob, can you measure a hose for me? Overall length would be great, from caliper edge back.
Thanks,
Mark
