What is the difference between the W8 and W9 heads when it comes to deck thickness? I know the W8 is a heavier casting but, does it have a thicker deck surface over the W9 head? My reason for asking is, if someone wanted to build a boosted 1800hp small block, which head would be a more durable piece and not have head lifting issues?

Not sure, but here is a bump to the top. FWIW, I just shipped my W8 heads out and was surprised that the total came to just over 75 lbs in minimal packaging. They are not light and I would suspect that they have more material everywhere...including the deck.

Durability wise the W-8 any day.... it has ALOT more
beef in it.... the W-9 was a cross between a W-7 and
a W-8 to make a good flowing but light weight head
but they can break pretty easy... I had a valve break
and damn near cut my W-9 head in half... if you want
to see the deck thickness look at the corners or
look at a water hole
