Guys,

I am looking for the best way to restore the rubber bumper fillers to the argent silver color they were from the factory.

I have some SEM adhesion promoter on the way but do you have to use flexible paints (used for vinyl or leather) or can you use standard paints over the promoter? These flexible paints are for interior so would they hold up?

Would you use something else entirely?

I have some Duplicolor paint which is a very close match to the OEM color but it is not a "flexible" paint. Would this work or am I asking to have this paint flake off?

What have you guys done and what has worked the best? This car is gargage kept so it won't be in the sun all day but I don't want the paint to be flaking off after 6 months....

Thanks!!

I use standard paint w/o the flex agent. Works fine. Car has been painted since 86.

when I sprayed mine I used flexible bumper paint that SEM sold already in the can that was very close. Definitely get them good and clean and use the SEM adhesion promoter that stuff always worked well for me. Does the can actually specify 'interior'?

"Best" and "Duplicolor" probably should not be in the same post...

Just covered this in class today.
Plastic parts tend to build up static. There is a product for this.
Then clean with water-based wax and grease remover, not solvent. Spray wet, wipe cleanly off, dry with new towel.
Tack cloth, then adhesion promoter, then spray.

So I am assuming I would be ok then with a thorough cleaning and prep with the SEM adhesion promoter followed with standard paint....

I know Duplicolor isn't the "best" out there by far....I just have found a Duplicolor paint color that is easy-to-find and matches the OEM argent silver very closely.

I plan on doing this for my tailight housings (plastic) and the bumper fillers (rubber).

One last question, would you scuff the plastic tailight housings before application of the adhesion promoter? If so, what grit sandpaper? Recommended or not?

Thanks!!
