Can someone tell me which K-frame I can substite that will be a direct replacment. A friend of mine has 3 spare ones. One from each year E-body 71, 72 and 73. Will either of these work?

Any other B or E-body models that will work?

Car is a 1970 Charger R/T 440.

Thanks!

E body steering box is at a different angle & in theory shouldn't be used.... That said I swapped a 70 Charger K into a 70 Cuda years ago & it worked fine.....

Clear as mud...

I would stick with a 67-70 member, but if you are going to use any listed try the 71 or 72 the 73 should have spool mounts on it.

67-69 don't work with the later design sway bar... Gotta be 70....

And to be semi correct on an R/T it should have the skid plate.... Which I'd save off the original K member...

technically the 70 B body K frame is a one year only offering, but as Randy stated about swapping a 70 B into an E body it can be done, the angle degree isn't that critical that you'll have problems with the pitman arm angle....either of the E (70-4 E body are all the same) or a 71-2 B body K's would work

A 73 B body would have spool mounts,....all the E bodies are the same K, 70-4...no spool mounts

I have a nice un-bent super clean 70 Charger "coin" K-member. I'd sell it for $75 but shipping would kill the deal....

The Skid plate only came on 6 pack and Hemi cars due to the deeper oil pan. Standard 440-4 barrel cars got the standard V8 K member.

Is that what you read somewhere? Well guess again... I've owned 7 70 vintage U code cars & worked on more than 50... They all have skid plates... Fact is some 383 cars have skid plates too.... Oh BTW the 440-4 gets the big oil pan too....

Well maybe my info is flawed. I look at alot of cars at shows, but I am not a numbers guy, crunching the fender tag codes like some guys do. I have only seen the skid plate on a few cars, and yes, I READ that the plate was exclusive to Hemi and 6 pack cars. Guess what? I am READING things on Moparts as well. Nothing to get all wigged out about.

Not wigged at all, I've always enjoyed all the flawed info in resto guides... I guess I have an advantage having worked on these cars when they were only a few years old...

Hemi's got skid plates starting in 66, A12/M code/440-6 cars didn't get it in 69 and only got the standard 402 pan..
But starting in 70 the big pan & skid got used on all (most) U/V & R code B & E bodies... Plus some G/H & N code cars just because it was available...

my 70 U code had a skid-plate on it as well...I was baffled by it when I first saw it. Was before moparts...almost at the dawn of the Internet. Sure enough...440 Skid plate. I think 68-69 can bolt in bowever the sway bar mounts are in a different place on the 70. my Sway bar went through the K-Member between the skid plate and the member and bolted to the member by 2 bolts and one bracket on each side..on a 69 the sway bar goes over the front extension to the radiator support and bolts to the lower control arm. I don't see why a 69 wouldn't work, just have to open 2 holes on each side for the front sway bar brackets (if you have sway bar)
