time to modernize a bit.
i currently have 275/60/15 on the rear of 73 duster with unmodified wheelwell.

can i fit that wide a tire using 17" wheel?? are there alot of backspacing options with 17's?

as for the front, will ride height need changed??

The most classic setup with these wheels is the 245/45/17 tires. There are people who have been able to fit a 275/40/17 on all 4 corners (approximately same height, just wider). Mustang wheels are cheap and easy to do. I would say, try to stay as close to a 0" offset as possible (So around a 4-4.5" backspacing).

No, try to stay away from 4.0" backspacing. There's a instance right now where someone got 4.0" backspacing and is having rubbing issues in the front of an A-body. Factory backspacing on a 7" rim was 4.25". On a 8" wide rim it was 4.5" backspacing.

You want 4.5 backspacing minimun front. You can go 5.0 easily with stock front spindles. 5.25 is close to the outer tie rod. Between 5.0 and 5.5 will probably be a problem if you run the 2" dropped front spindles.

In the rear, between 4.25" and 4.5" max. If you can't order 4.25" in the rear 4.5" is fine (usually better). But if there is any very slight leaf spring rubbing you can always add thin spacers. If you don't have enough backspacing, your stuck.

That's interesting. For some reason I always had the impression that you always wanted a smaller backspacing up front. I guess you learn something new every day.

well, A bodies have a narrower rear track than front, so you'd want LESS backspace to widen the rear and fill the wheelwell (look at stock dusters)

pre-05 mustang rims are 5.72" backspacing for an 8" rim (+31mm offset). stock 15x7 mopars are 4.25" backspace (+6.35mm offset) I ran bullits on my M with 3/4" bolt on adapters, for a net backspace of 4.97"...worked great, was able to fit 255/50R17's on all 4 corners. my duster's front wheelwell openings are much smaller, I'm suprised you can fit that big of a tire on them, as my duster gets close with 205/70R14's on the stock 14x5.5" rallyes...lots of positive offset probably helps that.
