I just bought my wife a 2011 Charger RT with the Mopar 11 package. The salesman said you have to run midgrade gas or if you don't and there is a engine problem and they test the gas and it is not 89 octane they can void the warranty. The owners manuel has mid grade as preferred, but reg 87 is acceptable. My question is which grade should I use? It is the 5.7 Hemi motor.
Thanks
Howard

Very nice ride, would like to see some pics.

Even my V-6 magnum Charger says to use 89 octane.

You CAN use 87, but why buy the Hemi if you would be concerned about mid-grade gas?

The engine is designed to burn that octane gas, and while it should back down the timing if you start to pull hard and the gas can't support it. I myself am one of the sheep who does what is told.

FYI, they won't test the gas and void your warranty, that's BS. On the other hand, I'd stick with 89 whenever you can, as that's what the engine is designed for. Always best to follow factory recommendations, especially for a specialty model like a Mopar '11! As proud owner of Mopar '10 #483, I can tell you...nothing but the best fuel, best oil, best filters for my Mopar!!

bullcrap. the owners manual says 87 is acceptable. they wouldn't say that if it voided your warranty. it will just pull a little timing out and reduce HP SLIGHTLY running 87. I personally have felt no difference in power, or seen any difference in mileage with 89 vs 87.

Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate them. I only put one tank of gas in it so far and it was 89. I will continue to run the 89 it is only 10 cents more a gal. and you are right if you buy a hemi why balk on paying for the gas. I love the Mopar 10. I think they only made 500 of them. I see that they made 1000 of the mopar 11s. Mine is #789. I went looking at the Challenger RT's and I lost my wife at the dealership and when I found her she was in love with the mopar 11 Charger. I think the blue stripe and black rims drew her to it like a magnet.long story short she drove it and was smitten.I told her I would get it for her rather then get the Challenger. We are an all mopar family once again(traded in our 2008 Buick Lecerne)I also have a 2000 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 and my 70 Duster 340. I don't have any pix of the Charger but if you go on ebay they have a couple for sale. They all are made with the same stuff.
