I am going to pick up one of these out of a 99 Durango for the Dart project. So, i have a couple of questions.
1. Will i need to change pans for an A body?
2. I am guessing that you have to run an electric fuel pump ( i will put a carb on this motor)
3. What is the best carb intake to run on a stock motor for the street?
4. Any more advice on putting a magnum motor in a 72 Dart will be appreciated.
5. One more, will the stock manifolds work in a A body or do you have to run headers?

I'll give it a try but please don't take as gospel.

1. I believe yes
2. Hughes make eccentrics to adapt the cam so you can use a mechanical pump. I believe you will need an LA timing cover.
3. I run a Mopar M1 single plane with Edelbrock 750 on my crate engine but there are many opinions on carbs.
4. nothing to add at the moment
5.Probably best bet is 68-70 exhaust manifolds.
I run the Magnum Truck manifolds with the large "port" (found on theearly magnums)in my 74 Road Runner. But there will be clearance issues on an A body. (oil filter, maybe P/S box)

Hope this helps

1. yes..you need a center sump pan and pick up
2..hughes makes the adapter
3. only 4 intakes made...mopar m1 single plane, mopar m1 dual plane, eddy air gap, the crosswind from professional parts..
5. yes..LA exhaust manifolds fit

you need the 360 LA pan that works for an abody.
use the LA gasket as well.

you can run electric, or as said there is an adapter, but I believe to use it you have to switch the front of the motor to the LA type wp and timing cover.

you need to find the brackets for the PS pump from a van or the ps pump will be under the battery tray.

and while LA manifolds bolt up, there is not a lot of overlap in it for the gaskets to hold.

the magnum manifolds work in a A-body with a 904 and manual steering.

Hey, I'll make you a killer deal.

I picked up a 360 LA oil pan gasket. opened it up and then found out that I can't use it on a magnum oil pan.

you need one? fel-pro cork gasket with rubber "ends" for the timing cover/rear main.

Which to be safe I would avoid and run an electric pump.

This was after a few months of driving, don't risk it.

Since I'm going to take fire for this I'll point out that I'm a factory trained Mopar tech with over 25 years under my belt and the piece was torqued to spec and locktite red was used.

It was installed correctly to the letter.. After a few months I heard a rattling noise under the cover and pulled it apart and found this.

Just go electric, its safer. I'm lucky it didn't come apart on the way back from LVD.

I suggest the Carter street pump mounted near the gas tank. Mount it using the rubber grommets. I have one that has been in service since 1984. Put the fuel line under a little pressure and it won't vapor lock as easily.

If we hadn't seen a mechanical fuel pump before we would say it was a mickey mouse contraption. Electric is the way to go.
