The engine is out waiting for Milodon so figured while im at it check runout. Isnt exactly easy with only about 2/3s of a circle at best but ordered some RobbMc .014 after I checked it about 15 times.

Are you guys going to be running electric speedometers? The T56 doesn't have a mechanical speedo output.

I was originally going to wire a programmable Autometer to my sensor but came across Speedhut having a 15% off sale and ordered one of their GPS speedos instead.

Getting there..

Is that replacement piece of cross-member considerably thicker than it looks? The original piece of cross-member is quite beefy, about 1-1/2" deep which gives it considerable stiffness. The replacement is just a piece of what appears to be fairly thin metal and in at least one place you have trimmed away the vertical edge (which is short, so already not adding much stiffness to the beam)) for clearance. Hard to tell if you are still running torsion bars or not, which will make a difference. Those torsion bars are trying to twist and the only thing resisting that is the cross-member and if that cross piece is not up to snuff you could get some movement in that cross-member. I am not a chassis designer but I am a naval architect and in multihulls twisting and deflection is something I have to think about and it looks like there could be a problem there.

Looks good overall, just something I noticed.

Oh, with the 2.66 low gear I would keep the 4.10 rear gears, it will be much easier on your clutch. Especially starting on hills you will not have to use as high RPM's etc. Plus you already own the 4.10s.

Best, Dave

Yes it is 2"x 1/2" C channel that is plated up to the first bends on both sides and also plated in each bend. I will go get some new pics with it in place from the underside. I also added a stiffener to the trans crossmember before I painted it. I am going to run the 4.10s that are in the car first then decide on 3.91 or not. I also have a 26" tall rear tire so 3.91s shouldnt hurt to bad.

And with the trans mount tied into the frame connectors it will probably be stiffer than ever.

I have a t56 behind a small block with a quick time bell. The quicktime bell is not really machined like a normal bell housing that centers off of the input shaft retainer where you are indexing it off of. Mine was cut real ruff around the circle. I don't really know if that is truely the center. I could not come up witha good way of doing it and ended up just bolting it togeather.

Yeah it is not the easiest to dial runout in with. Everything ive read says do it and it is machined with the bore within .005. After I was done I got it from .014 TIR to .005 TIR. With my transmission being brand new I didnt want to chance it.

And with the Schumacher mounts the pan is below the K about a 1/4" so added some Dukes of Hazzard style protection.
