Have any of you had this happen? 440 with an Mopar Mech. locked dist. curved for my application & MSD 6AL box. The initial should be 19* @ idle & 34* @ 3100 rpm. The engine runs great but the timing reads 52* @ 3100 rpm.

Is this a MSD problem? Wires seem to be connected correctly & like I said the eng. runs great. Appreciate your help.

Are you using a dial type timing light?

Yes, it is a dial back timing light & in the past has proven to be very accurate.

That's probably the issue....try a straight light that does not have the dial.

I'm not trying to say your light is inaccurate, but MSD states to not use the dial type with their ignitions. Apparently the multiple sparks freaks out the light somehow.

Now that you mention it.. I do recall others stating that their dial back lights were hit & miss when using the msd.

I have 3 timing lights and the only one that works correctly with the MSD is the cheap Sears unit.

Until I ran across this I had been hooking the mopar ecu up to set the timing then going back to the MSD.

I had a similar issue in my SB. The timing will depend on the reference the EFI will get.

I was using a locked dizzy and my initial advance was about 37š.

I donīt know how MSD reads the sigal. Thatīs why itīs too high. Ask them.
