Yeah, Loveland pass is a fun drive (better if you are on skis). Loveland the town is about 100 miles north east of the pass (on the plains north of Denver).

Thanks for the replies everyone, lots of good info here, as always. I'll advance the cam and check p to v clearances. I've still got a bit to go before it's ready for the road but I've been a lot more steady on her lately so I'm getting there!

Whew, glad to hear it's a stroker! Still gonna need a lot of converter though. 4500 or more stall.
I'd advance the cam like some others have suggested also.

With the stroker I like the combo better. I still think you have to much duration. We recently changed a buddy's cam in his GTX. Car runs a 511 w/SR heads, tunnel ram on alcohol,11.5-1,2900lbs. It ran 6.15 in the 1/8 w/282@.050"roller cam. Swapped to 262@.050",ran 5.90 More left in it,pulls way harder.

Why so much stall recommendations for a street car?

that sounds like indys r-1 cam. i have 3 of them in my 500" motors. i really like that cam. mine are in 4 speed cars with 3.55,s. all of mine are installed straight up at 108*

Not surprised at all with this, had a similar cam (can't remember the duration but it was close), it was the lunati .690 grind when we got the car. Took it out and went to a 268/272 custom grind and picked up about a tenth for the same conditions. Car ran a lot more consistent which is why we did it in the first place. I only run a 4.10 gear and a 5200 converter in a 3500lb car, and it just didnt like the extra duration. This is at 493 ci. For the OP, I would say either go to a smaller cam, maybe in the mid 260s at .050 or get rid of the 3.23s and get a converter that flashes around 4500.

4:10 gear with your tall tires will be good for the street. you could get away with even more gear, but it would make highway driving annoying.
If it is in the budget, call Ultimate Converter and have them custom build you a converter. For my street/strip combination they built me a really tight 9" converter that has almost no slippage when street driving, but when I hit the throttle it will flash stall to 5,000 RPM.
You could have used more compression with that cam, but I think a good converter can help there too. I was originally going to run a cam that is about the size of the one you have, but I was concerned about piston to valve clearance, and the short block was already assembled. What Piston to valve clearance did you end up with? If you change the cams installed position it will change the piston to valve clearances so recheck them if you advance the cam. If you have the clearance you may want to start with the cam in around 104 centerline?
The 1,000 cfm carb is fine with your combination and street useage. For the track it's a bit undersized. FWIW, I have been running a 1,000 cfm Holley HP on the street and strip for almost 15-years. What are you using for an exhaust system and air cleaner assembly?
I guess your using a 727 trans if were talking torque converters, and it should be built with a billet drum, and steel spline front gear. The 16-element bolt-in super sprag would be a good upgrade too. If you plan to race at the track your going to need a rollbar. If you have the traction it sounds like you could run into the 10s at Bandimere.

PS. if you want a ride in my Charger to see how the converter works just let me know, but not when we have a foot of snow like this week.

Like 451Mopar said, a GOOD converter will give you your high flash stall but still be tight down low for good streetability. I've been running the same 9" 5000 stall converter on the street since 2003 in my cuda.

There is a web page, BIGBOYZ that has a calculator for cranking compression based on intake valve closing point and static compression. Get that cranking compression and cam combo up to 195 or so, (or the most that will work with the crappy fuel up there) and I would lean towards a shorter cam to get the majority of it. A good street strip converter that can flash to 4500 with those cubes should work with a 3.55 gear. Chose headers for torque, more than Hp. Look at the "What will it make" thread by Fast68 plymouth for hints.

I run that exact same cam in my savoy,

I've heard all kinds of comments on it from being too small to being old school bracket cam. In my 451ci we advanced to 104 to pickup the bottom end, in the 500ci we put it back to 108 to kill some bottom end.

My it's a great cam that's easy on the valve train

I checked my cranking compression last month 215psi.
