Any pros or cons to either of these options? Both appear to be good companies. Looking at 727 ro 904 with GV unit. I know that SMR offers a "shortie" version. Not sure if it is that much different or not. Thanks C

I have bought a bunch of parts from Cope and he was really helpful and a good guy to deal with.
Seemed to be a genuine guy when I was on the phone with him.

I have never dealt with SMR, but Cope is top notch.
Ditto, Never dealt with SMR so I can't help you there.
But I have dealt with John Cope several times. And is hands down the best tranny guy I know. (And I know how to build auto transmissions - but I know my limitations)
When the times comes to get another trans thats for a non stock build I will use CRT without question.

Isn't SMR in Canada?
Yes. I believe so. Is that an issue?
It could be an issue. Nothing wrong with anything being built in Canada however shipping cost would suck.

Good point. Total cost/value.

Pat has a friend accross the river in detroit I think, he took our trans over to him, and shipped it USA, and shipping wasnt an issue. It was only $75, or $85 to have the trans shipped to us when I lived in Wyoming.

How long ago was that?

Instead of a trans and a GV unit, why not contact member 727specialists about an A-500 or 518?
Don't want to modify the cross member or floor pan. May look into him for a 727 - GV option as well.

I was doing my first ever 727 re-build...bought my kit from SMR...ran into a problem, middle of the weekend...called, was told that he was out racing, but as soon as he'd be back the message would be passed on. Well, I thought: "...man...I'm stuck...I'll never hear from the guy for another 2 weeks at best...". SURPRISE!!!...he literally called back within just a few hours...that very same date, right after he came back home from the race...but he called back and talked me through the problem I had...how is that for customer service??? And all I got from him at that time was a rebuild kit, certainly not a big buck item! He's getting all of my future business for sure because he's made a customer for life with that simple gesture.

Don't hear too many stories like that nowadays. Glad to see customer service hasn't been totally lost in the whatever is cheapest Walmart world.
